Overview of Bonnie Camp

Formerly known as Sundarikathi Eco Conservation Camp, Bonnie Camp is one of the most scenic and secluded destinations in the Sundarbans. Renamed by novelist Shri Budhhadeb Guha in 2003, it features the highest watchtower in the Sundarbans at 50 feet, offering spectacular panoramic views of mangroves, rivulets, and creeks — especially under a moonlit sky.

Location: South 24 Parganas Forest Division, near Bay of Bengal
Access: Boat only, permits from Jharkhali or Kaikhali
Permits: Advance arrangement required; handled by tour operators
Highlights: 50-ft watchtower, deer enclosure, eco museum, sweet water pond
Travel Time: ~6 hours from Sajnekhali by 6-cylinder boat
Best Time: October–March for safer river conditions

Unique Experience

Apart from the towering watchtower, Bonnie Camp houses an Eco Museum, Banbibi temple, ethnic cottages, a round-shaped lodge (now closed for stay), and a beautifully landscaped park. The deer enclosure lets visitors observe spotted deer in a natural habitat. The surrounding silence at night, interrupted only by the distant bark of deer and the possibility of a Royal Bengal Tiger sighting, makes Bonnie Camp a truly thrilling experience.
